But instead needed support for serial ports and ADB.

The B&W G3s have an ADB port so I wouldn't think it would be that. As far as serial ports go I could care less if they ever work since I no longer use them. I just can't see how a Rev A bondi iMac could run Panther but my beige G3s that are 100X better won't. I can't see Apple cutting support for the G3 all together in Panther since they are still selling iBooks with G3s in them. I guess in a way Panther is Apple's way of saying goodbye to there beige computing era.
