The vast majority of heat coming off an old iMac is from the CRT anyway, but that generally stays constant, unless the screen is turned off.
That's the annoying thing, on a desktop Mac one can have the monitor switch off completely without the Mac going to sleep...
So much for actual environmentally friendly (though I actually hate that stupid argument)...
