Have you not seen/heard of the "Fanny Mac" ? ---
For my money, if you a re really serious I'd buy an 8cm cooling fan for a PC and rig it to extract air from the top vents.

Buy ? I have killed enough PCs in my days to have a large quantity of 12V fans... ---
You an get really nice fans made of clear plastic

if you really want to go to town, and you can do all sorts of silly
business constructing ducts out of cardboard and stuff, but really
anything is better than nothing.

Comes back to the failure issue. These ducts would kill the iMac if the fan/PSU failed. Taking the power from the iMac would only cause even more heat to be generated by the iMac...
