I've already been down the road of finding out what's new for the books. The only
news I've been able to find is that the powerbooks are on the list to upgrade, but
only months from now, and that the iBooks won't even be talked about until the end of
the year, if even then (which coincidentally lines up with the proposed release of
Gobi). I'd like to have Panther, but at this point I can just sit around waiting for
someone to have the good graces to say something. While I love my iMac, it siomply
isn't doing the jobs I need it to do, and while i love my little powerbook 1400, it's
too slow, so it needs to go as well. That leaves my hobby 7500- which is only a hobby
computer- I don't really do anything but upgrade this $20 wonder, and my PC, and I
hate my PC. It's fine for some of the games I have on it, but it's a pain in the ass
if I want to do anything more than the most basic computer stuff. Nope, it's time to
get a new computer.
Let's even say that I bought a second hand powerbook or iBook that won't have the
processing power I need to fly Targetware(online flight sim) with my buddy. I'd pay
top dollar for a fine computer, but I still woulnd't have the power I needed to handle
all of the tasks I needed it to. I know it's just a game, but I have to upgrade
sooner or later, and I might as well upgrade to a point where I can handle everything
I want to.
In anyevent , If I buy an iBook and a new line comes out in a few months, I'll just
sell the one I have, and buy a new new one with the money from the sale plus a few
dollars. The same goes for Panther. I want it, but I'm a little tired of sitting
around waiting for Apple the say something about releases.
I hope I didn't come off too strong. That wasn't my intention. I'm also not stuck in
my ways with this (yet), just a little tired of waiting around an not hearing a word.
If I knew that Panther had some critical features coming, or that a new iBook line was
on the way that was far better, I'd wait, but I don't have any of that knowledge.
Perhaps I'll be eating my words after I read the panther sneak preview page that was
provided on this thread.
Ahh yes, tim, Yes, I am running OS 10.1.5, trying to network it to my PC running
Windows ME, and not having much luck. I'm thinking by this point I'm not getting the
smb address right, but don't know how to fix it,
Brian
