If I'm not mistaken, this would make AOL's client the ONLY mail client I know that will NOT send plain text... dumb... :/
Yep. I believe AOL started down the html/mime route with Windows AOL (WAOL) 7 or 8. Then when they wrote the true Mac OS X version of AOL (MAOL 10.3), they added that "enhancement". Actually, Microsoft started this whole thing, but they at least left in the option to disable html/mime!
That's kind of disheartening because it means, sooner or later, I'm going to have to start banning ALL AOL users, Mac and Windows alike, from joining my mailing lists. I flatly REFUSE to allow HTML posting on my lists as I want to be certain all messages on them can be read by ANYONE, regardless of their choice of computing platform and/or mail client. Plain text is the only truly universal format understood by ALL computers.
I don't understand why AOL would even WANT to do that. I can see no logical reason for completely removing the ability to send messages in plain text. I mean they MUST have had SOME rationale for the decision. I've love to know what it was... :/
