Hey Guys,
Managed to get me a copy of OS X.2.3 Server, and I am not sure what to do
with it!
I have an iMac G3 400Mhz/192MB/10GB and an iMac G4 1Ghz/512MB/80GB. The iMac
G3 currently has 9.2.2 and the G4 has 10.2.8.
You could always get a small (dare I say PC) hard drive and run it off that, that way you don't loose a damn thing!
My question is - If I install Server on the G4, will I lose anything or do I
just have stuff to gain? Is it compatible with everything that the normal
user edition is? Are upgrades available the same way... E.g. Can I use the
software update to update to OS X Server.2.8?
I also play around with a copy of OS X server given to me for those reasons by my school district. They invest in me I bring them a good tech, its that simple. I have been able to run anything and everything on Server along with using it for fun stuff. I ran it on a G3 300MHz Server G3 with 384MB RAM and for learning purposes it ran fine. It probably even would have made a great FTP server with some extra storage space. Then I ran it on a G4 500MHz (Sawtooth) and it ran "friggin" awesome. I also had 768MB of RAM.
Phil, if you load it let me know what problems you have. Despite past arguments I got a stripe RAID array to work with and it was bootable! But as I was saying I was playing. I don't have Server X on anything right now. But I guess my Server G3 is idly standing by.
Basically Tell me everything I will lose and gain!
I'm no Apple certified tech but I didn't find anything I lost It seemed to me that I gained server OS on top of regular X. I don't know, someone correct me on that.
Thanks a lot
Phil
