I got an set of original iMac install disks. Thanks, Jim. However, the iMac won't start up from any of the disks when holding down the C key during boot up.
What problem are you trying to solve, or, what is it that you are trying to get done?
I got the system folder from the original software install disk and copied
the folder to the iMac through a network connection. I am planning to rename the old system folder OLDSystem and put the finder in a folder named
OldFinder. Then I was going to start up the computer from the new system
folder I copied over. Does anyone have any suggestions about starting up
this recalcitrant iMac with this method of changing systems?
No, I can't comment on the efficacy of your proposed method, but I wonder, if your problem is not being able to boot from an install CD -- did you try inserting the CD and then choosing it as the start-up disk? And have you tried re-setting the PRAM?
What OS is on the Mac?
