hard drive full

Before I  took the plunge to X,  I'd seen some discussion on this list 
about the hard drive running out of room, but didn't retain the info 
that was shared. Now that I have been running Panther for a month or 
two, (10.3.4)  I got my first "start up disk is full" warning today. 
I've spent the whole day searching forums and I can't find anything that 
might help explain why. What can I move to another partition? My whole 
user folder, or just the Library, or Documents?
