From: "Dennis B. Swaney" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> The current, and probably the final, version of Palm Desktop for Macintosh 4.x is OS X compatible, You can get it free at PalmSource (?) or whatever the Palm OS folks are calling themselves now. Just remember that Palm OS 5 is the last version of the Palm OS that will be Mac friendly. Palm OS 6 will not work with the current Palm Mac desktop and PalmSource says that they will not support the Mac OS with POS 6.
I have corrected you about this before and will continue to point out that you are wrong until you get it.
The above part of your message is true and accurate, however:
So eventually there won't be any Mac-compatible PDA/Smartphone's unless Apple gets its act together and either converts the iPod into a PDA or brings back a new version of the Newton.
This is utter and complete nonsense.
PalmSource (the software company that develops the Palm OS) and Palm (the hardware company that develops the devices) are now different companies. Just as Filemaker is not a part of Apple, for example.
PalmSource says they will not develop Mac compatibility for POS 6 (I think it's very funny that those are the initials -- good catch!). That does not mean nobody else will. Most Palm "conduits" are not developed by PalmSource.
Palm (the hardware company) have already said that they will make sure Macs remain compatible, either by developing their own solution in-house or (much more likely) by buying/licensing and adapting an existing third-party solution such as "The Missing Sync." The last time you spread this BS I pointed you to a MacCentral article that refuted it.
In addition, both of the major companies that provide PDA-to-Mac compatibility have already said that they will make Palm OS 6 work on Macs. Furthermore, Apple might well decide to expand their "iSync" application to handle this.
All that has happened is that PalmSource has decided not to take on the responsibility of ensuring Mac OS compatibility, leaving it to other entities.
Now you (again) have the facts, please stop spreading FUD.
