Just wanted to say that I gave it a try and it works! Finally I have an AirPort Extreme network the way it should be, and the base station is no longer a heavily overpriced (albeit still damn impressive) paperweight. :) Thanks a lot, Mark! Sometimes the simplest solutions are truly the best.

I believe my happiness was a little bit premature. :(

After setting up IP values in Base Station manually, it stops working after... 6 hours, I think. Just replugging the cable from Base Station to a computer (which was being a server before) and back repairs it.

I have a hunch that it might be related to DHCP, ie. the base station does not request DHCP renewal and that's why the connection dies. Could that be the case? Is there any way I could repair it? (ie. manually requesting DHCP renewal from a different source, etc.)
