Maybe you need to define "inexpensive" :-)
I use a Logitech Pro (retail $99, on sale everywhere for less) in the USB of my PC and an Orange Micro iBot in the firewire port of my eMac. I like them both, but obviously I like the iBot camera more. Firewire beats USB any day.
Oh geez, I completely ignored the possibility that he might be talking about a webcam! Doh!
The OP mentions a Snow iMac. If it's a 600MHz or better, the iSight would be my top pick (if he is indeed talking about webcams). It may not be the cheapest, but quality TRUMPS price on that score.
