Sorry, I totally forgot that there were other types of digital cameras! I
meant a camera for taking digital photos, general-purpose. Can't afford
anything fancy. I have an old "Jam Cam", but they are really terrible
quality, and can only take about 8 pictures in the hi-res setting, and kills
the 9V battery after just a couple of pictures. My Snow iMac is only 500
MHz, running Panther, if that makes any difference.
Nah, when it comes to digital still cameras, the model of Mac doesn't make any difference as long as it's got USB and can run iPhoto. iPhoto is not an absolute must -- many cameras come with Mac-compatible photo software of their own, some of which even runs in OS 9 -- but I find it to be the best organising program around until you hit the "pro" levels.
You sound like you are in need of the services of http://www.dealcam.com. It's a great web site that constantly looks for the best deals on all types of digital cameras, sorted out by whatever criteria you want (megapixels, optical/digital zoom, price and so on).
A year or so ago I was looking for a cheap 2.1 Megapixel camera (we didn't yet have those 5-megapixel babies we have today, or if we did they were sky-high in price) and found EXACTLY what I was looking for via Deal-Cam -- features v. price range. I'm sure you will too.
