Every Mac user should have a copy of MacLink. Wonderful utility that will open formats you have never heard of and/or long forgotten were still around. MacLink has saved us many a time over the years. Your correct, Text Edit an AW will both open word docs.

Just out of curiosity, what word processing software is available on lowend Dells?
MS Works. Installed with almost every consumer wintel box. It's an Apple Works wannabe. It does now include continuous ads offering you the opportunity to upgrade to the "real" Word, Excel, etc.. :-)
