What will I see and what will my machine do when its PRAM battery
goes (or has gone) bad?
First symptom is usually that the clock looses a lot of time while
the computer is shutdown, or reverts to time 0. In the classic Mac
OS that's 17 Nov 1858. In Mac OS X it's 1 Jan 1970.
Then, as the battery weakens more, some PRAM settings get lost -
which port AppleTalk is using, which system to boot from, etc.
Then eventually, your Mac will be unable to boot at all or it may
take several presses of the boot button. It won't even bong.
My old G3 233 iMac still boots despite having had a flat battery for
some years...However it always needs a while
to search for a system folder & all the dates on emails are wrong
etc. It remembers if you leave it plugged in to a live socket.
