My old G3 233 iMac still boots despite having had a flat battery for
some years...However it always needs a while
to search for a system folder & all the dates on emails are wrong
etc. It remembers if you leave it plugged in to a live socket.
Forgive my brusqueness, but what the hell is wrong with you?
Why are you risking your data for something that will cost you about
$11 and a few minutes of your time to fix?
You say this battery's been dead for years, that your system takes a
long time to boot up and all your emails have the wrong date ... do
you have ANY idea how much trouble you're causing the recipients of
your email (and all the machines that handle it as well) by being too
lazy to fix this problem?
I ask because we see a lot of people with the same mental block as
you, and I'd be interested in finding out your rationale on this. Are
you the same sort of fellow who drives on flat tires because the car
still rolls along and it's too much bother to refill them with air?
Do you leave your clocks set at one time and never adjust them
because in six months Daylight Savings Time will roll around and
they'll be right again?
Are you, in short, a "12:00 Flasher"?*
*meaning all the VCRs et al are flashing 12:00 because you can't be
arsed to learn how to set the time?
