There are two reasons to run a DNS locally if you're not a provider.

1) Speed... Most of the time, though, this is not going to be an issue.

2) If you make changes frequently to your DNS entries it is a lot easier
(and cheaper in the long run) to manage it yourself on your own server... In
this situation, it's also a good idea to have your ISP run a secondary DNS
slaved to yours... This keeps the control with you, but keeps the load out
on the Internet - at least for folks who aren't in your office.

3) If you really want to learn about DNS, and/or you have a thing about
aggravation and late nights that lead to little or no satisfaction... All
that by way of saying, if the first two reasons aren't strong enough then
you're better off not doing it.
