After
all the churn of the past 1-2 years, we understand and hear the frustration and
the concern - the changes perplexed many of us here at Ipswitch
too...
There
are lots of changes coming and we may not get it all right during
the first stage of changes. For example, 1 year after the ICS launch,
we revisited the pricing and we are going to adjust pricing, downwards, in
some cases by thousands of dollars, with the release coming in 1 month.
If the
market can't bear it, then we will change it. We are lowering
nearly all of the 250, 1000 and UNL pricing for ICS Standard, ICS Premium and
the new IMail Secure (formerly ISP/EDU).
We are
working through 2006 roadmap prioritization as we speak and are all ears.
Feel free to contact me directly (781.676.5739) - we don't want to
just get even with the competition, but jump ahead. We have a lot of
competition in this space and have a lot of ground to make up so any and all
input is appreciated.

concerned. We're only going to bend over so many times before we say enough is
enough.
I don't think you should be charging more for "maintenance"
than some mail servers can be bought outright for. Especially when they have
the same or more features than Imail currently has. This will definitely drive
off more customers. Unless that's the goal, I think it's a bad idea and the
main reason why people don't renew it in the first place.
Doing the
math in my head I can see that hanging out for two years buys me an entirely
new license with someone else with arguably better
features.

So hunting around, the new "street/actual" pricing for the bottom 3 tiers
will be a lower than today's $695 and higher for the top 2 tiers. And it's
quite alright to purchase the current IMail Pro SA for $695 (or see link
above for better pricing) and you will receive all updates for 12 months at
which time you would pay the new UNL price.
We have a lot of new features coming in the IMail 2006 roadmap (not final
but includes an overhauled web calendaring and scheduling, password rules
including auto expiring passwords, graphical/statistical reporting (e.g. top
senders/receivers by domain, reports/analysis on mailboxes, etc), archiving,
etc.) and for those who are willing to give us a shot, the best approach,
for those in the higher tiers, is to purchase an IMail Pro SA today for $695
and then you'll get the new updates coming next year. Again, not final, but
we currently have at least 2 updates scheduled for 2006.
>From the product manager perspective, if the market can't bear the new
pricing, it makes perfect business sense for us to revisit!

If Ipswitch causes those of us who have been long-time customers, with
unlimited licensed versions, to fork over significantly more money to keep
the unlimited licensing, that will cause a whole new set of problems for
us
and cause us to start re-thinking all of those other companies who's
products we downloaded evaluation versions of and have continued to
monitor
during the last year and a half.
