We
have a customer we do the exact same thing for. We installed the pop3
adapter for exchange (free from Microsoft) and set up a nobody alias on our
Imail server. The customers exchange server checks mail from our Imail
server ever 1 minute over DSL connection. They also use the SMTP server
from exchange to send messages because they have some users that do not have
public email yet need internal email for the company. This allows us to
run DNS for their mail server and web site which we host as well. The only
drawback is that we have to enter each email address for their domain in our
accept.txt file on our Imail server. This arrangement works flawless and
we have had no problems at all with it.
We
have done this with exchange server as well as sever other mail servers like
VPOP.
