My Toyota truck blew two head gaskets. The first time the truck was still
under warranty, and they even paid for towing. Though I was out a vehicle
for nearly a week, I was content. That was November of 1996.

Second time it blew it was a year after all warranties had expired. I then
discovered that there had been a recall on 6 cylinder Toyota trucks and cars
from 1989 to 1993 because of faulty head gaskets. The recall had occured in
October of 1996, and the dealer freely admitted that he had likely not even
opened the mail from headquarters about the recall until after my headgasket
had been replaced. Thus it was likely that the headgasket they had put in
was a faulty one. They replaced my headgasket at no charge. If they had
tried to screw me, I would have gone somewhere else, got the headgasket
replaced and would not have set foot in a Toyota dealership ever again.

That is good business practices. When you sell a faulty product, you don't
charge people to fix it.
