BTW, there's a joke at the bottom...

IPSwitch has known about the web messaging vulnerabilities since at least
March 20, 2002 and, as far as I know, was trying to reproduce the web
calendaring
issue around the same time. Since then, I don't know if they were able to
reproduce all the issues or not. For all I know, some of these problems
could
have just been issues with my specific setup.

Fortunately, some of the list users have since confirmed that these
vulnerabilities do exist and have suggested that I wait and "give Ipswitch
a chance to respond". Fair enough.

I have to say that overall, I've been very happy with the product. There are
just a few issues keeping me from actually using the web messaging and web
calendaring (the username/account security problems). If these fixes end up
in a 7.08, then this problem is no longer a problem for me. If they end up
in a 7.1-8.0+ version, I have to somehow justify why we need to spend more
money to get the secure web messaging and web calendaring system that I
originally suggested. (Hence, the duplicate effort to program an ASP
version
of messaging and calendaring off the IMail services.)

Bottom line for me: It's been 7 weeks. I'd at least like to know if IMail
has
even confirmed the existence of these issues and if these are things that
they
are going to fix in say, the next 3-6 months. And finally, if they will be
fixed,
are they going to cost me an upgrade or a service contract? If the answer
is
"No" across the board, then at least I can justify the work I'm doing now.
As
it stands, we're sort of in la-la land.

On the other hand, I agree with Scott on most counts. This demand for a
bug-free product is kind of silly. I guess it would have helped if IPSwitch
released a list of open issues. Thus, when customers buy a product, they
know
what they're getting.

Finally, on a lighter note... it's funny that people are comparing the auto
industry to the technology industry. This flame has happened before...
