Kevin,

My first question would be, "Did user2 ever receive the vacation message?"
If so, the only way that I was able to exactly replicate the problem as you
stated was to set up a vacation message for myself (user2), **forward my
messages to a non-existent local address named Vacation**, and send an
e-mail as user1 to user2. I know that this is a crazy scenario but it does
yield precisely the same results as you mentioned.
