Based on what you're saying here the only incoming messages to IMAIL will likely be bounces, subscriptions, and un-subscriptions. If that is true then I think you'd be better off to have a relatively inexpensive IMAIL box with several relay servers. Then for sending your bulk mail you could use the relays as the sending MTAs. I seem to remember that Gammadyne Mailer did allow multiple SMTP servers so that would even make more sense with it. Then set up your dns so that the incoming came back to another one of your mail servers and then let it send to IMAIL in a controlled manner. Since you have very few mail boxes you don't need much at all for IMAIL. Passing off your incoming and your outgoing to other servers will prevent the IMAIL queue issues. Len's IMGATE machines would be excellent for this. You might want to hire Len for a little consulting. If you want to stay with MS you could use MS SMTP servers for outgoing and let the incoming hit IMAIL directly. You can use MS SMTP for incoming too but there is no controlling the flow. I also think you do need at least one and probably two really good DNS servers for the outgoing for that number of messages especially if you use the outgoing mta's to speed things up. If you stay only with IMAIL then be sure and study the dq page at http://www.declude.com/dq.htm and also config.nt settings per http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q196453 because either large numbers of outgoing or incoming can really devastate IMAIL.
