But what exactly is the problem with IMail's mail-to-fax option?  Is it just
that it lacks features
compared to a real fax server, yet

It can probably handle the basics of receiving mail from an alias and then
turning that into a fax ready to be shipped out analog, right?

It works fine as far as its spec goes. But like the Imail list server, compared to dedicated fax server software, it's not in the same class. It all depends on your needs.
