Don't put the offending file back in the spool, or patch the server if there
is a patch for it.  I remember an 8.05 patch that dealt with this issue.

I think I'll follow the advice and move them back one at a time. If one of
them crashes smtp, I'll have found the culprit.


I'm with you, removing everything but today's stuff from the spool is a good
idea and on my list of things to do today.

I am now wondering what the logic of moving the old files back is?

Even if the message is isolated as the cause, is there really a way to
prevent it from happening again?
