Lycos is actually acting as a proxy for all the screensavers.
oops, that doesn't sound "distributed" at all, if the requests are channeled through a proxy, which then becomes DDoSable itself.
What's important is here is what happens if the Lycos concept works, then perhaps the floodgates for more counter-attacking tools will be opened.
While a lot of people of become inured to spam as a "fact of life", it's really silly to let spammers destroy SMTP and force us to spend billions in spam defense, while we meekly live with the status quo as defined by spammers.
Let's gather all up all the villagers, light the torches, and march up the hill to Dr. Spammerstein's castle and burn it down so he and his spam monster won't terrorize us anymore. :)
