At the moment, we're setting the port descriptions on the router or switch
itself. Then setting the port label in intermapper to be port number and
interface alias. Seems to work well, especially if the aliases are
small. For example, we have a building named "Braddon Hall". A switch
there is labeled "Braddon_1", then each port is labeled with just the room
number (such as "203"). This works out nicely. But when we have to label
a port with a long name, it can start to overlap badly with other ports
around it. I also label my uplinks and downlinks. but "Uplink to
Braddon_2" or "Downlink to Braddon_4" gets long, but its typically only 1
or 2 ports per switch.
Is this something along the lines of what you'd want?

Life will be a lot simpler using that. Actually manage switches is almost
impossible.
