Actually the code is now bailing when it fails, so if it's from that,
would fail either way at registering the pci device, so probably not the
same thing. I'm suspecting the first may be a problem for SMP that
should be fixed, but just a a theory, that the i2c xfer timing change
somehow could cause problems there.
