I wouldn't think the i2c bus delay would cause a problem. Should be something easily tested though, given the frequency of oopses occuring, if SMP users would disable fast firmware load (options cx25840 cx25840_fast_fw_load=0), and see if that fixes it.

We could just disable the option or flip the default if CONFIG_SMP is enabled (is that still what it is called?). That would probably be easier than trying to lock the bit-algo's udelay member duing a firmware upload.
