Can you get into the specifics of what you needed to do to get the

What kind of issues/problems are you having with your mvpmc? I have
this exact setup, because my wife absolutely does not want a
computer in
the living room. So, I needed a nice unobtrusive FE, and the MVPMC
works fine for that. Now, I only use it with mythtv, and I mostly only
watch recordings, so it's been pretty workable. Been using it for over
a year now.
http://www.mvpmc.org is the place to be.
Basic steps:
- Install a dhcpd/bootp server for serving up the dongle.
- Download the latest mvpmc dongle (0.3.2 I believe) from above site.
Should go into a directory /tftpboot on your dhcpd machine.
- Get your mac address from your mvpmc (either on the bottom of mvpmc or
you can get it from one of your logs on the machine that is running
bootp. Look for DHCPREQUEST and it will have the MAC Address).
- Create a bootp section for your mvpmc in dhcpd. I have attached mine.
- create the dongle.bin.mvpmc.config file in /tftpboot. I have also
attached mine. If you use it, make sure you look it over carefully.
- I can't remember if you need to do this next step, because I have 2
Backend machines, so I needed to do it anyway, but you may need to
enable your database to allow external connections, according to this
mythtv link:
http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-6.html#modify_perm_mysql
- If all went well, I think you should be able to power up and your
mvpmc should boot, download the dongle and config file, and in about 30
seconds you should see the mvpmc main menu and have the ability to watch
your recordings. Of course, This is all from memory from a long time
ago (There are days I can't remember my name from yesterday....). If
things don't work as you go along, please don't hesitate to email, and I
will assist and/or fill in the blanks as necessary.
