Hi, 

Just to keep the thread complete. I reboot the system (no power cycle), and the 
problem occurred again. If I power cycle, the card comes up just great. Wish I 
knew what was going on here.

I cracked open the computer, pulled the card, cleaned the contacts, and put the 
card back in. The darn thing works now. Dunno if I trust it though.

The behaviour I have had is identical to this, with newi2c=-1 or 0 it 
takes about >5 minutest to load the module, with newi2c=1 it takes 
seconds.
