Unfortunately, for many JAL is still an exotic compiler, something to try and leave for a while to become mature. They need better support for it (docs, tutorials). A good IDE, combined with a good board (be it Jaluino, Pinguino, FreeJALduino, etc), and complete libraries and docs can make wonders!
But JAL is still in development so is understandable (and open source - not easily adopted by commercial companies).
