another idea is that you take the .ai format direct and load it into a 3d-modeller and afterwards exporting it into any desired 3d-format. e.g. wings3d will do this, but it will not load the ai>version 9 or 8 [?], but it will convert common geometry in a 3d-mesh, maybe you have to retexturing your grafics after the export. I am sure that there're also other modellers which are able to load .ai-files, maybe in a better way then wings3d would do. best regards rolf

I have a bunch of art in Illustrator that I'd like to render as flat polygonal meshes. By default, AI can export to SVG and DXF: the SVG files look pretty good in third-party SVG viewers, however the DXF files look awful (not to mention that only a few components of them actually load using the DXF loaders referenced on j3d.org).
Anyway, so I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to load/convert SVGs into something Java3D can render as polygons? (Rasterizing to a texture isn't really an acceptable option). I figure it must be possible, especially since svgl can render these sames SVGs as polygons in C using OpenGL.
Thanks.
