So... any java dev folk feel like moving to New Zealand? And a small town at that for some java love?
This post is in part a serious request if anyones interesting in moving here, but also to start a new discussion about how these adds come across. Earlier in the week, Rimu Hosting ( a well known web hosting service, with a good java-deployment story ) appeared on a local news show with a segment about not being able to find any good developers, the video can be watched here: http://www.3news.co.nz/Video/CampbellLive/tabid/367/articleID/91372/cat/84/Default.aspx#top Following this story being broadcast, the following job advert was posted to a local auction site (think ebay+craigslist): http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Jobs/IT-Jobs/Programming-development/auction-199051218.htm Now for me - both the story and advert leave me feeling a little jaded, the Campell Live segment starts with annoying audio/video editing declaring "ja ja ja ja java, tom to to tom ca ca cat." and just came across as tacky and made the rest of the story seem less 'serious'. This is followed by a request for people who "eat java for breakfast", and who want to "whack code". Not to mention that "coding up the Java app, HTML, CSS, Javascript and database. keeping at it until you have a truly perfect and awesome application." part of the advert left me with a 'we have no actual dev process' feeling. I could be wrong - I know people there, and I know a lot of the Campbell Live segment was heavily edited, but part of me isn't surprised they're not finding devs. Thoughts? ...and then Buffy staked Edward. The End. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group.
