Thanks for toning it down a bit.

No, I'm not saying they are happy to let it happen. I'm saying they should
have done something when they realized things would not come back quickly.

Site maintenance is a known occurrence. Before doing the maintenance, they
probably should have had a plan in place in case things went bad. A roll
back of some sort, another server where they could put of a page saying they
are experiencing problems. I'm not saying they are happy with it. I'm saying
they were caught unprepared and instead of leaving the site dead for 3-4
days, there should have been a contingency plan.
