Yes you are correct, the UK economy is finished. You are right to
consider emigration.
I think your scope is too limited however.
On your list I think Canada is the best option. A very strong and
disciplined government and a good environment for technology
(especially in Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver).
Australia - A large banana republic with little technological
influence. If you plan to mine coal or become a farmer it could be a
good choice.
The only problem is that there is no rain. IMHO
Australia is finished.
New Zealand - A beautiful country (with rain) and a nice quality of
life. Problem is there are no jobs.
A friend of mine married a girl from NZ and
promised her that they would go there to live.
He is a Java Enterprise Content Management
expert (in Washington DC he never had problems finding work) and
explains to me that the job situation is so bad there
that most people want to move to Australia
(another country with few tech jobs).
Canada - Maybe the world's best country, full of smart people and
pragmatic projects. Jobs take a while to find, but do exist.
Toronto is good because it is a banking city, their
banks however are healthy unlike US, UK and Euro banks.
Also marijuana smoking is common place (if you need to
relax after your UK journey).
What I think you are missing is a lot of good countries in the "so
called" third world.
These include:
Korea (south)
Taiwan
Brazil (an open source powerhouse)
Poland
Estonia (full of beautiful women who marry Java guys)
Chile
Open your mind to the non-English speaking world.
