I would like to say in defence of Australia as a candidate country
that:

- our economy is doing quite well with low unemployment (~5%) and
reasonable growth.
- there are a number of world leading IT companies, e.g. Atlassian,
Google Sydney (Maps & Wave), Silverbrook Research (big private
researcher), to name a few.
- naturally there will be fewer opportunities than the UK because of
the relative populations (60+M vs 21M).
- the bulk of the IT opportunities are concentrated in the Sydney,
Canberra, Melbourne triangle
- the climate is pretty good and does make life quite pleasant
