I personally always found it easier and faster just to remember the alt-key
combinations. This may be difficult though, depending on how many accents
you need to use. I mostly use french ones, which are most acute and grave
accents between 130 and 140 or so. So, to type an acute lower case e, for
instance, you would hold down the alt key, and type "130" on your number
pad. Not sure how this works in Windows 10 yet, but XP let you access a
character map where you could search for and see the number values for all
accented letters and symbols that are not available on the standard
keyboard.

Vicki,

JAWS makes a number of accented letters available in a list that you access
by pressing JAWS key+4 on the number row above the letters. You arrow down
the list or navigate by first letter, then press enter on the one you want.
Not all symbols are in the list, so it has limited use.

I'll leave it to others to explain how to assign a keystroke to produce a
given accented letter.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] adding accent marks with JAWS

Is there a way to have JAWS automatically add accent marks in a foreign
language word when writing in English?

For example, if I were to write the name Therese which is a French name but
I am writing the document in English, can the correct accent marks be either
added or automatically set to add any time I write the name?

If I need to add them manually, how can I locate them on the keyboard? Not
all of them are on the standard typing keyboard.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks.

Vicki
