Perhaps you don't need to include H3 at all in the formula , and just type =E4+F4. (or -f4, whichever is the case, since we here don't know whether the deposit was less or more than the payout.) I hardly ever use Excel, but did learn to use it somewhat a long time ago. So, I don't think you need to type H3 again, since the h column (filled with the formula or formulae) should take care of the ongoing forward balance as you work through the month.
