Hi Patti,
In your scenario with cell E2 being where the payment heading is placed, F2
for the deposit heading and G2 for the balance heading, your formula for
current month balance could go in G3. Let's say you have 200 rows for each
month. Your amounts start in row 4. The formula for current balance for
the given month to go in to cell G3 might be something like the following:
=sum(f4:f300)-sum(e4:e300)
In cell H3 you would show the balance in effect at the end of the previous
month. You could go to G3 for the previous month and copy the cell's
contents and then paste that to H3 in the current month's worksheet. This
would probably be as quick a way as any other to do it. Use CTRL-pageup to
move to previous worksheet, use CTRL-G to bring up the go to box, type in G3
and press enter. Use CTRL-C to copy the cell's contents. Use CTRL-page
down to move back to current month's sheet, use CTRL-G to bring up the go to
box, type in h3 and press enter key. Paste the contents of the clipboard in
that cell.
To write the formula in H3 of the current month instead of pasting the
amount, you need to use the name of the worksheet and the cell or cell range
from the previous month. Let's say the current month is April. In h3 of
April you might write:
=March!g3 (note the exclamation mark between the worksheet name being
referenced and the cell or cell range).
If there is a space, number or other character other than alphabet letters,
then the name of the worksheet should be in quotations. For example, you
might write in H3 of April:
="march 2008"!G3 (Note the exclamation mark after the closing quote and
before the cell reference.
Feel free to write me off list if I can offer any more help.
Take care.

Thanks for getting back to me.
What I'm doing is making a check book with the columns
A. check number, B cancel, C. date, D who to, E. payment, F deposit, G.
balance, and cell h3 is the forward balance from last month.
All this is in row 2, and the first row to write in should be row 4.
I don't know how to write the formula in a blank excel table.
Thanks again

Patti,
Would be glad to help, but are not sure what you're trying to do. E.g.,
what is balance forward? What is pay to? If you can describe in words
what you are trying to do, I can easily translate that into a formula for
you.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Excel 2003 formulas
Hey Gang,
I'm trying to figure out how to write a formula with excel 2003, but
every
time I do, I'm doing something wrong.
Here is what I want.
In cell h3 should be the balance forward, e4 should be payment to, f4
should
be deposits, and g4 is the balance.
Can some one tell me the steps on writing a formula?
I'm using Jaws 8, windows XP, and excel 2003.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Patti
