Hi Trish, The password I am referring to is often referred to as a pass phrase or network encryption key, and is usually located on a tag on the modem or router.
This is the password you need to put into the computer to connect to your wireless network. What if you needed to know it, but have no idea what it is, is this something user chooses or from the make/model of the computer? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rick Justice" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, July 02, 2013 3:48 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] connect to the internet from a laptop Hi Tom, As Trish mentioned, there may be a switch on the laptop, but some use a hotkey to enable/disable the wireless connection. Typically, the wireless card is on and an icon will appear in the system tray. The icon may read as follows: not connected wireless connections are available If this is the case, your wireless card is on. If the icon reads like this: not connected you are currently not connected to any networks then your wireless card is off. If your particular laptop uses a key combination, it will be something like this: f/n + F5 You may need to consult your user's guide, or get sighted assistance to locate the key. You will need to know the name of your wireless network so that it can be chosen from a list of available networks Your network should be secured, so you will also need to know the pass phrase and the security type, so that you can enter it manually. Jaws should read all of these dialogues with no problem. If we knew more specific information, I'm sure someone could help further.
