It is true that moving the fire-wall from the software to the hardware is a great idea. However, I will remind people that just plugging in a router is only the start. You should really poke around the routers interface and modify it to lock it down even tighter. For me, I turned off the wireless access, changed the SID, changed the default admin username and password, locked it down to only accept connections from the MAC addresses of my three computers, and probably a few other things.
Also, having a fire-wall does not protect you from email born viruses. Luckily, I read my emails on the UNIX side so I don't need to worry about that. Lastly, whoever it was that made the comment, would Microsoft really include a substandard component in their operating system, I am still laughing. Just because Microsoft put a fire-wall in their OS does not imply that it is a good fire-wall. In most cases there is third party software that does nearly everything better than a Microsoft product.
