Hi all,

Just got my beta Duet - many thanks!

Mixed success, however: the biggest problem is that the SBC doesn't
connect to my wireless network. It detects my network fine, and (after
I've entered the key) tries to connect. Eventually it fails and gives
me the "Connection Problems" menu. I can see the SBC's MAC address on
my router's list of associated devices - so it's trying at least. It
feels like I've just got the WEP key wrong, but I've tried entering it
several times.

Router is a Zyxel Prestige 660HW-61 running 802.11g with 128-bit WEP.
The router has given me some problems recently so it may be a router
problem, but everything else seems to connect ok at the moment.

At least I'm in a position to provide really, really, excellent
feedback about the network-setup screens on the SBC :)

- When it first scanned for wireless networks, it found a couple of
neighbours networks a few seconds before it found mine. However the
"please wait" screen (with the animated circle) disappeared as soon as
it found the first, leaving me confused for a few seconds. A "still
scanning" indicator might save a frown or two.
- When entering the wireless key, the instructions say "Press center
button twice to finish" - that doesn't work, the cursor just advances
two places.
- When entering the key, the vertical bar (with 0-9A-F on it to choose
from) overlaps the screen title bar by a pixel.
- The 'magnified' number 8 looks horrible.

Other comments about the SBC:
- The wheel feels much more stable than on the earlier model, where it
felt a bit loose.
- The four buttons around the scrollwheel are not quite centered in the
recess, it's pushed right down to the bottom. I've since noticed
something similar (though not as obvious) with the older model.

So.... no go on the SBC. I've got the SBR configured using the older
remote, and it seems to work a treat; has been playing for about an
hour now. The multi-coloured button on the front looks very pretty
indeed towards the end of the setup process. Just how many colours does
it flash?

Using the old SBC, which used to work ok, I'm getting some problems.
I've actually had some of these for a few days already, but I'd put
that down to letting the SBC firmware get a few days ahead of the
server. I've updated both today.

- When I first turned it on to configure the SBR, I thought I'd update
the firmware before doing anything else. The relevant menu option found
firmware available on the network, but downloading it failed.
- I selected to set up a player, and my SBR appeared in the list. The
set up process went perfectly, and I've been able to control the SBR
through the web interface.
- I was then able to update the SBR firmware.
- The (old) SBC now seems just generally unreliable. Often, on startup,
it fails to connect to the Squeezebox (it did this immediately after the
firmware update, and it's doing it again now). When it does connect, I
experience hangs when navigating into Artists/Albums etc. from the
Music Library screen. It's currently not connecting, and the choose
player screen is blank. I guess this sort of thing could be a network
problem again.

Final things:
- After setting up the SBR, the message in the web interface (saying
Squeezebox not found) seemed to disappear automatically. However it
didn't automatically 'select' the SB, I had to manually select it from
the drop-down menu.
- I had connected the SBR using wired ethernet, thinking that perhaps
the setup process would detect both the wired and wireless portion of
my network and that it would use the wire. I don't think this happened
(at least, I pulled the ethernet cable and it's kept working since) -
presumably, if I could get either SBC to work, I'd be able to configure
that from the SBC.

I'm going to leave my router switched off overnight (which seems to
solve some of the problems I've had with it recently) and we'll see if
the SBC's behave better tomorrow. In case it's useful, this is with SC
17350; player firmware 22. 'Old' SBC reports 7.0r1853, I can't get the
sw version of the 'new' one.

Thanks!

Ian
