Erland has ideas on this subject:

his idea is an excellent one, but I should say a big effort to
implement.

On shuffle, just to play devil's advocate...I grant you that it's not
as easy as hitting the shuffle button, but it's really not that bad:
hit Home, select Settings, shuffle is the top item in the Settings
menu.
