Hold on, so what happens if you *do* use a router? When I got my beta
receiver, my controller was already setup to use my wpa protected
wireless access point, I then configured the SBR wirelessly (the only
option possible at the time). The setup went very smooth, but I most
seriously suspect the Controller sent an unencrypted UDAP packet
containing my existing WPA key (without me even having to enter it)
over that same ad hoc connection in the process. So a wireless router
is no solution to this problem at all in fact it makes the problem even
bigger. I agree with gharris that the risks while running ad-hoc are
minimal.

Thankfully, I'm not that paranoid, but suppose my neighbour had been
monitoring unencrypted local networks he could've picked up my highly
secure and jealously guarded WPA key.

For the very paranoid, I'd advise the use of Robin's wired setup
utility, that is if you trust him not to have added a little "phone WPA
key home" routine somewhere ;)

I fail to understand why a thread like this must 'die'. It's
interesting enough to me.

Regards,
Peter
