I know there has been discussion about cable modem vs DSL, but I wonder what arguments you might have for and against Cable for phone service. Pros: Since AT&T took over PacBell, my phone bill doubled. Time Warner offers a flat rate. Cons: One disadvantage I see with cable, is that if the power goes out, so does your phone service. I guess I could also save money by switching to DSL, but that's another issue. The point is, I don't see much savings from combining a package.
I don't know the SD market. I made the switch a few years ago here ( Lenexa, KS aka Kansas City Metro ). I have been happy with the switch. My bill never changes unless I order PPV. The power issue is mostly handled on the newer cable modems. There is a battery backup on the device that should last for 48 hours. You should retain Internet and phone service in a power outage. In Lenexa we have multiple competitors, so we can get a better rate. My wife called when we moved here and said "We are moving to an area with Everest, and I am thinking of switching my service" The sales rep responded "We have a deal for people like you." We get digital cable, internet, and either Shotime or HBO for just under $60. The phone service is $30. It comes out at about 1/2 what I used to pay. Hope that helps. -- JD Runyan -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-list
