I fail to see the logic in this. They asked to secede, we didn't kick
them out. Isn't that the same as resigning membership? According the
the new rules that SDMUG wrote, you can't be a member of SDCS without
being a member of one of the SDCS SIGs. I think paying dues is
irrellevant. If you resign membership, does your membership continue
until your dues run out, or does it stop when you resign?

This is an important issue, because it goes to the heart of where the
next annual meeting will be held. If SDMUG is still an affiliate SIG,
then according to the rules, the election for the board should be held
at their meeting. If, however, as I contend, once they state that they
are leaving SDCS, and the board accepts, they are no longer an
affiliate SIG, and not entitled to hold the annual meeting. So the
meeting now gets moved to the next largest affiliate SIG.

And there has to be a quorom to hold an election. If SDMUG members are
still members in good standing, then they count toward the number to
calculate a quorom. Their membership is close to 200, raising the
quorom requirment to about 50 members. No quorom, no vote. SDMUG can
essentially hold SDCS hostage, while not being a part of the group. We
need a clear demarcation to move on. And we need a consensus about a
position, so that we can forcefuly state it.
