Jerry,

I do not see this as a bug, nor do I see any reason to have the option to
get rid of a preferred child.

The default is that the first child entered (this does not mean the eldest
btw) is the preferred child. You can change this, for whatever reason you
may wish, to any other child in the family. It is only there for you own
personal use and is not shown on web pages nor in reports.

Thanks for the explanation. That does seem to be a bug to me - just an
annoyance, I guess, since there's no way to change it. I just started
noticing these on some (not a huge number, but a significant number) and
I don't think I ever selected them as preferred. I remember only doing
it in one particular instance. I guess when I upload them to my TNG
website, it won't matter because I don't think that will come across on
a gedcom anyway, as far as I know. It just seems very odd there should
not be a way to change that. Thanks again --Jerry
