Hi Ludie.  Yes, you do have to turn it on if you want the * to show for
the so-called preferred child.   Apparently the system automatically
selects the first child entered as the preferred child, unless you
change it, but the * will not display by default.    As you say, that's
a good thing and I think a lot of people would think so, but since it is
an option to keep it turned off, I'm ok by it.   But if you ever do want
to turn it on, just go to OPTIONS / CUSTOMIZE / DATA FORMAT and you will
see the check box to check if you want to start using that function as
Legacy envisioned it.   Welcome to Legacy - it really is a great product
and since my programming skills are limited, I have to leave it to the
