Hello all, What I don't understand is the general context for adding an event called "User Story" or "Census" or similar as suggested in various email threads. To me these are not events, but are sources. I'm surmizing there's a benefit to using Legacy in this way, and I'd like to weigh that usage model as I start to embrace Legacy more fully. Regarding documentation-related events like "User Story" or "Census", what's the advantage of doing things that way as opposed to creating a master source, creating a citation based on that source, and attaching it to a non-documentation event or, as a parking lot for an individual, to the unspecified event? Then you could put the story in the Notes section of the detail and attach a file, etc. I'm just not deep enough yet into Legacy to see what benefits one approach gives me over the other. Lastly, what other ways do people generally use Legacy events besides the two above? And most important, *why*? Thanks, Jean Suplick Jean, There are some things which can be either Source or an event. A census is one of these. Mike sees it mainly as an Event whereas Dennis, mainly as a Source. Neither is incorrect. My own preference happens to be the same as Dennis, but I recommend that you choose which best suits you. One of the main criteria which I use when making decisions such as this is to consider how I intend to use the output from the data which I collect. My main output is as a website, and I consider that using a census as a Source for the information given in the census is far better, for this purpose, than creating a census event. Others may disagree, but as always, the choice is mine, and in your case yours! Had I been intending to publish a book then I may have come to a different conclusion. I don't know because I have never considered this possibility. The consequences of my choice are that I have Residence Events and Occupation Events which I possibly would not have otherwise. On the other hand I can easily source names, births and relationships when using censuses as Sources.
