Brian,

If a file is being used simultaneously by two people, then when they are
both uploaded to Dropbox they will each have a different time stamp.  When
you next go online, two files will be downloaded to your computer and you
can view them both so as to decide which you want to use.  However, if you
think that other family members will be using the one file at different
times, Dropbox can work quite well.
